I love to hand quilt. In these times of awesome machine work, I still like the comfort that a hoop on our lap with a soft quilt can provide. There is no better experience in hand quilting than with Legacy 100% super washed wool batting. There is no resistance to the needle and thread. The loft is natural and will always bounce back, showing the design.
I use a 14" wooden lap hoop. I like YLI hand quilting thread because it has a slick finish that does not drag fibers along with it while stitching and is easy to thread. I pay attention to the weave of the backing fabric so that the needle can pass through easily.
I will share tips on how to mark straight lines as well as stencils and how to baste. And of course, a discussion on batting choices.
